Ingredients

  • 1 cup cold water or coconut water for extra flavor
  • 1 tbsp basil seeds
  • 1-2 tsp honey or sugar adjust to taste
  • ½ cup fruit juice lychee, mango, or passion fruit work great!
  • A few ice cubes
  • Optional: Sliced fruit mint leaves, or a squeeze of lime

Instructions

  • Start with 1 tablespoon of basil seeds per 1 cup of liquid (water, juice, or milk).
  • Add the basil seeds to about ½ cup of water and let them sit about for about 5 minutes until they expand.
  • You’ll see them expand and form a jelly-like coating. When ready they will look like this:
  • If they seem too thick, add more water. If they’re too thin, let them soak a bit longer.
  • Sweeten the drink by stirring honey or sugar into the fruit juice until fully dissolved.
  • Combine everything by adding the soaked basil seeds (with their water) into the juice mixture. Stir well.
  • Add ice and garnish with fresh fruit or mint leaves for extra flavor.
